Giles' professional life began in manufacturing where he spent time working as a production controller - making sure that manufacturing orders were planned appropriately so that the team who worked for him could deliver the promises that he made.

To gain chartership Giles then worked in various engineering roles in the rubber, automotive and power generation sectors before moving into production management. During this same period Giles also looked after the IT systems for the business (which included ERP introductions and CAD migration!).

After gaining his masters degree and chartered status Giles looked for a change of direction for his career and worked at Durham University as a Senior Consultant, before starting Smartspeed in 2005.
