If you can imagine what an inefficient organisation looks like; with its constant running around yet things taking so long to happen, you can understand why there is such a drive to be efficient.
In its simplest terms efficiency allows us to get more from less. We can do less work and get the same results, or do the same work and offer a far superior service.
Becoming more efficient is a simple enough process, but sometimes requires a little bit of creativity to come up with different ways of working.
The example in the diagram below shows one of the types of outcomes you can expect. By understanding what is important within the process we can decide what is not of use any more and decide to design it out of the new process. In this example activities 2 and 3 have been removed, leaving a shorter overall process.
